Refrigerator Repair

If your LG refrigerator is not cooling or not cooling well, you have come to the right place. Here is the information you need to determine what to do next.

The temperature in the freezer should be around 0 degrees Fahrenheit and about 38 degrees in the refrigerator or “fresh food” section. If it’s not, you can call us to schedule fast, expert service. If you would like to check some things before you call, here is what you can do.

First, make sure that the refrigerator is plugged in. If the lights are coming on when you open the doors, this confirms that the refrigerator has power. If not, check your breakers and confirm that the plug has power.

Next, make sure that the fans and compressor are running. The fans in the freezer and refrigerator will usually turn off when you open the doors. You can listen for the sound of a fan stopping when you open the door.

The compressor and the condenser fan need to be running as well. These are both located in the rear of the unit near the bottom. Typically, the compressor will be on the far left if you are behind the refrigerator. The compressor is quiet, but you should hear a hum from it running. If you’re not sure, take the cover off and put your hand on the compressor. A correctly running compressor will be warm to the touch and you will feel a vibration from it running.

The condenser fan should be running whenever the compressor is running. It is usually located on the right of the rear compartment. You can feel air moving through the cover without removing it. If you already have the cover off, you should see it running.

If any of the fans or the compressor isn’t running, further troubleshooting can be done to determine why. To rule out a problem that simply needs a reset, unplug the refrigerator for 15 seconds and plug it back in.

If you have found the compressor, condenser fan, and evaporator fans are running but the refrigerator isn’t cooling, you have diagnosed a sealed system problem. That means that a part or parts containing refrigerant have failed and need to be replaced to get your refrigerator working again.

The most common reason for an LG refrigerator to quit cooling is a compressor failure. The older linear compressors have a valve that can break. If this valve breaks the compressor can’t pump effectively which results in weak or no cooling. While this is a major repair, many customers opt to repair their refrigerator rather than replace it. A repair will cost significantly less than a new refrigerator. The compressor has been updated to reduce the chance of future failure. There is also a software update done with every repair that helps to protect the compressor.

A less common reason is a refrigerant leak. This can be repaired by replacing or repairing the part that is leaking.

LG’s warranty covers parts and labor if the refrigerator is less than 5 years from date of purchase. If it is 5-10 years from the date of purchase, LG will cover the compressor part only. You will be responsible for labor, filter-dryer, and refrigerant. To start a claim or find out more information you can go to:
